Roof & Wall Cladding FAQs
What is the difference between cladding and roof sheeting?
Sheeting covers the roof. Cladding covers the vertical faces of the building: the walls, gable ends and parapets. The materials overlap and the same profiles are often used for both, but the fixing, the flashing details and the access equipment are different. A roof is walked on and drains water downward. A wall takes rain horizontally and has openings, corners and a base detail to seal. Sicon Group carries out both, frequently on the same building, and you can read about new roof sheeting separately.
Can new cladding be fitted over the existing panels?
Sometimes, and it depends on what sits behind the existing panels. Over-cladding avoids the cost and disruption of a full strip-out and keeps the building sealed throughout, but it only works where the existing sheets and the supporting rails are still sound and where the additional weight is acceptable. Where corrosion has reached the fixings or the rails, the old skin has to come off first. An inspection settles which applies before anything is quoted.
Can cladding be matched to our corporate colours?
Yes. Chromadek and comparable coated steel products are supplied in a standard colour range, and cladding is normally specified to sit as close to an existing corporate palette as that range allows. An exact match to a printed brand colour is not always achievable in a coated steel finish, so we confirm the colour against a physical sample before ordering rather than from a screen. Colour choice also affects heat gain, so a darker corporate colour on a west-facing elevation is worth discussing at specification stage.
What does new cladding cost?
Cladding is quoted on wall area, but access is often the larger variable. A single-storey elevation reachable with a boom lift costs less to clad than a high wall needing scaffold, and openings, corners and base details all add labour that plain wall area does not show. The condition of the rails behind the existing panels matters too, because replacing them is invisible in the finished job but very much present in the price. A free inspection establishes all of it before quoting.
